HOUSTON – While the timing may not please many of us, elevated rain chances over the weekend signal hope that we can reduce the June rainfall deficit as the month draws to a close.
So far, most places around southeast Texas are 1 to 2 inches shy of normal rainfall totals for the month, and the region is on the cusp of dropping back into a drought condition if we don't pick up the pace on rainfall for the rest of the season.

Our increased rain chances come from a low pressure area that's poised to work into south Texas from the western Gulf of Mexico on Saturday. As it moves in, a lot of moisture will be pulled into the region from the Gulf. That, along with the low's inherent instability, will likely produce pockets of rain that drift through the area on Saturday and begin to taper off Sunday.
Many areas could see half-inch rainfall through the first half of the weekend. Isolated locations may pick up well over an inch, depending on where the typical tropical downpours that we all know and love decide to set up shop. At this point, it looks like areas along the coast and southwest of Houston will see the most rain.
By Sunday the rain will begin to taper off as the low migrates west into northern Mexico. Look for a 30 percent chance for rain through the first half of the day, with decreasing chances late in the afternoon and evening.
While the rain may not be welcome to those of us with outdoor plans, any rain we do get will help to keep our temperatures in check. Look for highs over the weekend not to exceed the lower 90s!
