HOUSTON – The system that brought Houston's rain on Wednesday will become a major storm that smacks the Northeast with snow on Friday.
The relatively benign low that swept through Houston will continue east and, eventually, curl north up the east coast, combine with a secondary low coming in from the Great Lakes, intensify and drop over a foot of snow in places from Maine to New York.

Boston and Providence, R.I., are the areas likely to be hardest hit, with blizzard conditions Friday and Saturday. Twelve to 24 inches of snow are possible with wind gusts to over 50 mph.
A blizzard warning will go into effect for eastern Massachusetts and northern Rhode Island on Friday and last through Saturday afternoon. A winter storm watch is in effect for all of New England, New York, and northern New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
If you or someone you know has plans to be in the northeast on Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday, be aware that travel may be a nightmare. Delays will be rampant at airports across the northeast, and those delays will likely ripple through much of the rest of the nation.
