Temperatures will likely dip below freezing in those areas between 3 and 5 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are expected to rise quickly in the morning.

We've been enjoying some very cool, fall weather this week.  For everyone who loves a break from typical Houston warmth, it's been a real treat -- an opportunity to actually don a coat in the morning and snuggle into a nice, thick wool sweater by afternoon.

This weekend we start the transition to warmer and wetter weather that settles in early next week.  The transition will be slow, though, so our weekend weather will likely end up being an extension of this week's fall feel.  Temperatures may warm up a little bit on Sunday, but we will still enjoy seasonable temperatures in the 40s for morning lows and in the low 70s for afternoon highs.

On Saturday, the predominant northeast breeze that we've had all week will once again be with us.  By Sunday, however, our wind will start to shift to more of an easterly, and eventually southeasterly, breeze.  If you've lived in Houston for any length of time, you know what a southeasterly breeze means:  Warmer and more humid weather ahead!  Because the wind shift is so late in the weekend, though, we won't feel any significant change until Monday and Tuesday next week. That's when the dry, crispness of this week fades, mornings get warmer and muggier, and the sense that it might rain lingers in the air.

So, with the weather looking to be beautiful from start to finish this weekend, don't worry about your plans for outdoor projects around the house, the kids' football games, your morning run or bike, or, last but not least, Texans tailgating on Sunday.  Whatever your plans are this weekend, if they entail being outdoors, you're in great shape!  A morning jacket or sweater may be the only added layer you'll need.
