Downpours could make for slick Tuesday commute

HOUSTON – Showers and storms will create periods of heavy rain Tuesday in Houston.

Meteorologist Britta Merwin said there is a 70 percent chance of rain for the metro area through the day, and there is a possibility that some of the storms could become strong and severe.

Ponding on area streets was already occurring Tuesday morning.

Coastal residents will wake up to fog, Merwin said.

There could be some sunshine in between the off-and-on rain, Merwin said. Temperatures will climb into the 70s.

Merwin said rain chances will increase for Houston on Wednesday. Up to four inches of rain is possible, with some flooding possible.

Skies will begin to clear on Thursday before full sunshine returns Friday, Merwin said.
