Light freeze in outlying areas tonight, slightly warmer weather for Houston this weekend

Sweaters and jackets for the remainder of the week.

HOUSTON – The winter chill continues in southeast Texas.  Temperatures tumble as the sun sets Thursday evening, so coats will be a must if you'll be out.  Expect a slight warm-up over the weekend, but another push of cold air on Monday will keep us at or below normal in the temperature department through the middle of next week.

Temperatures will plummet into the 30s area-wide overnight Thursday night.  Outlying areas north and west of Houston will experience temperatures a couple of degrees below freezing for up to four hours Friday morning.  Damage to plants and pipes is not expected.  Temperatures will stay just above freezing in Houston and along the coast.

Weekend temperatures will rebound into the 60s.  Expect a 20 percent chance for very light showers on Saturday as a weak disturbance moves through.  Sunday will be sunny and pleasant, with highs in the mid 60s.

Temperatures in the 70s are not expected in the Houston area until the end of next week.
