April 27 Newsmakers: Congresswoman Jackson Lee & Comptroller Susan Combs

HOUSTON – Here are just a few of the topics discussed on this week's "Houston Newsmakers" with Khambrel Marshall:

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee says pressure on Russia will be increased until there are positive results. A human trafficking database has been proposed to stop Houston as a major trafficking hub. There is bi-partisan support to do something about providing ways to fund early childhood education. And the National Guard Unit at Ellington Field can be saved if Houstonians rise up in support.

Also on this week's program, Texas Comptroller Susan Combs, who says Texans know far too little about how their tax money is being spent. Combs says she recently did 40 town halls and at each one of them asked one question.

"I said, 'Before you go in to the ballot box to vote on new bonds, do you at that point know what you already owe?'" she said. "Not a man, not a woman, in 40 town halls had a clue and I said, 'Well that's kind of scary.'"

Combs also has several new websites for Texans to use to get important information about how tax money is being spent. www.tellthetruthtexas.org   www.texastransparancy.org
Both sites are incredibly helpful in providing valuable information about how the state's Chief Financial Officer works and how our money is put to work on our behalf.
