Hurricane Irene will be the first hurricane to hit the United States since Hurricane Ike.
Hurricane Ike hit southeast Texas on Sept. 13, 2008. The strong Category 2 storm packed 110 mph winds.
Ike affected about 75 percent of the Galveston Island and cost the city millions. It was deemed the third-costliest hurricane in U.S. history, and FEMA said it was the costliest to ever hit Texas.
Take a look back at the damage Ike caused.
