Storms Move Through SE Texas

Flood Watch Canceled

Rain drenched the Houston area on Monday, but did not cause major flooding problems, KPRC Local 2 reported.

A flash flood watch that was issued for southeast Texas until 7 p.m. was canceled early at 3 p.m.

Rain will continue through the evening.

"Just inconvenient stuff out there so be careful," KPRC Local 2 chief meteorologist Frank Billingsley said. "The heavy stuff is either to the south of Houston or offshore (as of 4 p.m.), so it's looking pretty good -- certainly better and better as the evening continues."

Light rain is expected to fall until midnight.

The squall line had cooler temperatures behind it.

"We're going to see near 50 overnight," Billingsley said. "Be careful to the south. But generally, from Houston to the north, things have really lightened up."

Houston TranStar received 4.49 inches of rain. Katy logged 3.07 inches, Humble 3.5 inches, Sugar Land had 2.48 and 3.15 fell in League City.

"Another tenth of an inch to a quarter-inch of rain is expected on Monday," Billingsley said. "We'll have a cloudy and cool start Tuesday morning."

Drivers ran into high water in several spots around the city in the morning, including the North Freeway southbound feeder road at Tidwell Road, the Southwest Freeway northbound feeder at Westpark Drive and the main lanes of the East Freeway near Cedar Lane.

Air traffic delays of about an hour were reported at George Bush Intercontinental and Hobby airports Monday morning.

Things should clear up on Tuesday, which has a high temperature of 66 degrees and no chance of rain.

Another front is expected to move through the area on Thursday.
