Storms Leave, Lower Temps Arrive

Rain Caused Traffic Trouble In Morning

Storms pounded the Houston area Thursday morning, but they've moved out and cooler weather has started to move in, KPRC Local 2 reported.

"We're done with the rain," KPRC Local 2 meteorologist Anthony Yanez said. "We're not going to have to worry about this any more today. Everything's out of here."

The heavy rains made the morning commute tough for some drivers as high water made many roadways treacherous.

"We are so flat that when you get 2 inches of rain, the water has nowhere to go," Yanez said. "If you have any kind of drainage problem, and it can be a minor one, you're going to see those roads flood very quickly."

Some drivers on Fondren Road near the Southwest Freeway got stranded in high water.

The La Porte Independent School District said its buses ran an hour behind because of the weather.

"Some of the radar estimates from what we saw this morning was anywhere from an inch and a half to 2 to 3 inches in general," Yanez said. "League City got 5.32 inches, 5½ inches at Houston TranStar."

The front that brought the storms will move out throughout the afternoon and temperatures will drop. It's expected to be 64 degrees by 6 p.m.

Friday will be dry with lower temperatures. The expected high is 68 degrees with a low of 52 degrees.
