Thousands Without Power After Storms

HOUSTON -- More than 10,000 people are without power after strong storms moved through the Houston area overnight, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.Centerpoint Energy officials said about 59,000 customers lost power at some point during the night. Most of the outages were concentrated north of the Sam Houston Tollway in the Cypress, Humble and Greenspoint areas."We've had a lot of power lines, transformers, arching wires, automatic alarms,"said Assistant Fire Chief Mark Braswell of the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department.The storms dumped some rain and left damage behind in some areas. Porter Fire Department officials said a building was damaged and at least one power pole fell down. A pawnshop in Montgomery County sustained roof damage and a carport was damaged, officials said.Thursday morning should be quiet throughout the area, but another system could move through in the afternoon and drop more rain.
