Gray Skies Hover Over Houston

POSTED: Thursday, July 19, 2007
UPDATED: 12:45 pm CDT July 19, 2007

Heavy rain pummeled Houston as strong storms moved through the area on Thursday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

"So far in July, it's not rained only four days," KPRC Local 2 meteorologist Anthony Yanez said.

Gray and gloomy clouds made the morning sky look more like midnight.

"The saving grace for us has been the speed of these storms," Yanez said. "We haven't seen any training."

The storms have been moving at 20 to 25 mph and have dumped significant amounts of rain. One to 2 inches of rain was common, but some areas saw about 4 inches in three hours.

Rain is in the forecast throughout the afternoon.

"There is a little bit starting to fill in again here in the Gulf of Mexico," Yanez said. "If the atmosphere will recover, these will start to form and we could see heavy downpours again."

There is an 80 percent chance until about 3 p.m. The evening rush hour is expected to be wet with a 60 percent chance of downpours.

Saturday and Sunday are also expected to be a bit wet. There is a 40 percent chance of showers each day.
