POSTED: 1:38 p.m. EST February 16, 2004
UPDATED: 3:04 p.m. EST February 16, 2004

Question: I have heard that craps has the best odds for the player. Is that true? How can I learn to play?

John in Hudson, Wisc.

Ask Rick

Answer: Thanks for sending in your question, John.

I'm not much of a craps player, but from what I do know, yes... that game offers the best odds in the casino. Of course, it really depends on you knowing how to play, which, despite what some people may tell you, is not easy.

People have written entire books on the subject, so, don't expect to become an expert overnight. However, there are a couple of resources on the web that can help.

For basic craps rules and strategy, you can check out the Gaming section on Vegas4Visitors.com. We offer a simple "Craps for Dummies" style explanation of the game, basic bets, and a couple of tips. Visit that by clicking on this link:

There's also a pretty decent website called, oddly enough, Learning-Craps.com. They have a pretty substantial archive of rules, fundamentals, strategy, and betting systems. You can visit them here: www.learning-craps.com

If you really want to go crazy and become an expert, your best bet is to start reading. Go to the Gambler's Book Store Online and start buying books on the game. You can visit them here: www.gamblersbookstore.com

Or visit them in person on your next trip to Vegas. They are located at 630 South 11th S., in between the Strip and downtown.

Good luck!
