Continental Airlines Announces Flight Cuts

A week after Houston-based Continental Airlines announced it would lay off 3,000 employees and cut flights by 11 percent, the company announced Thursday which destinations travelers would no longer be able to fly directly between, KPRC Local 2 reported.

The carrier said it is slashing 13 percent of available seats in Cleveland and nearly 8 percent in Houston, its second biggest hub.

Beginning Sept. 3, Continental Airlines will discontinue the following flights:

  • Chattanooga, Tenn.
  • Guayaquil, Ecuador
  • Hartford, Conn.
  • Monclova, Mexico
  • Montgomery, Ala.
  • Oakland, Calif.
  • Palm Springs, Calif.
  • Reno, Nevada
  • Sarasota, Fla.
  • Tallahassee, Fla.
  • Washington - Dulles

From Newark Liberty To:

  • Albuquerque, N.M.
  • Cologne, Germany
  • Santiago, Dominican Republic
  • Sarasota, Fla.
  • Salt Lake City, Utah
  • San Jose, Calif.
  • Tucson, Ariz.

From Cleveland Hopkins To:

  • Austin, Texas
  • Birmingham, Ala.
  • Charleston, S.C.
  • Charleston, W. Va.
  • Cincinnati, Ohio

Customers already booked on flights that will be discontinued will be contacted by the airline to make alternate arrangements.
