New lanes at Hobby Airport are expected to help travelers get through security and onto their flights more quickly, KPRC Local 2 reported Monday.
Most travelers said they welcome the change. Andrea Cavender said moving through the lines can be a bit of a hassle, especially when she is behind someone who is not prepared or who needs extra help.
"Everything slows down," Cavender said. "Take off your shoes, check your bags, check everything, take your laptop out. Yeah, it's slow."
The Transportation Security Administration unveiled the Self-Select Lane program at the airport on Monday.
There are three different lines for three different groups of passengers.
The green lane is for families with small children, for elderly people or those who need special assistance and a little extra time.
The blue line is for casual travelers. People who are a bit more familiar with the process may choose to use this line.
The black diamond lane is for the expert or business traveler. Those who travel often and who come prepared to move through the line as quickly as possible.
"That one I like," one traveler said. "I travel every week, so that would make it even faster."
Security officials said they hope the program will reduce wait times and keep passengers on the fast track to their destinations.
Airports in Orlando, Boston and Spokane started the program on Friday.
TSA officials said the expert rider program could help security officials do their job. They said the lanes help ease passenger stress and could allow behavior detection officers to more easily spot suspicious activity.
