HOUSTON – All lanes of Interstate 45 will be closed this weekend in downtown Houston as crews continue rebuilding a bridge that was hit by a truck earlier this year.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the West Dallas Bridge over I-45, also known as the North Freeway, was hit by an over-height vehicle in September. The crash required a reconstruction of the overpass.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, all lanes of I-45 will be closed between Interstate 10 and U.S. Highway 59.

Drivers traveling north on I-45 will be detoured to northbound 59 to westbound I-10, where they will be able to re-enter I-45. Drivers traveling south on I-45 will be detoured to eastbound I-10 to southbound 59.

Drivers should also consider using the 610 Loop as an alternate route.

Work will continue for several weekends through Dec. 12. On those weekends, southbound I-45 will be closed at I-10 and northbound I-45 will be closed at 59.

The West Dallas Bridge will remain closed until construction is complete, which is expected in late December or early January.
