HOUSTON -- Beer lovers have the chance to name their own brew, thanks to a local microbrewery's
online auction on eBay, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.
Brock Wagner owns Houston-based
St. Arnold Brewing Company, located at 2522 Fairway Park Drive.
The former banker is using the auction as a way to help defray the costs of expensive machinery.
The winning bidder will earn the right to name Brock's newest fermenter, which is a $40,000 machine that churns out 60 barrels of brew for each batch.
"The bidding has been quite active," Wagner said.
Bob Gonzalez shelled out nearly $1,000 last year to name fermenter No. 11. He dubbed it St. Gonzo. Ever since then, he's been reaping the modest fringe benefits.
"You get invited to our company Christmas party," Wagner said.
"I'm not real good at waiting in line, so being St. Gonzo cuts down on that," Gonzalez said.
As far as the naming rules are concerned -- nothing offensive, no company names, and no repeat names are allowed. And each gigantic vat is called "Saint" something.

The auction ends Friday at 10 a.m., Houston time.
