HOUSTON – I am the first to admit when I have judged something too harshly, and I think I know why I wasn't supremely enthused with the series premiere of Revolution. It's because we just didn't meet Miles Matthieson soon enough! Yes. Let's run with that.
This sophomore episode of Revolution was everything I was hoping the premiere would be—action-packed, informative, mysterious, and dystopian enough to be interesting without being incredibly depressing. Not to mention I'm game anytime someone is crafting a gun that you can wear like a bracelet. PRAGMATIC FASHION, PEOPLE. (Don't know what I'm talking about? Check out the video below, towards the endish of the episode.)
The back and forth pieces are woven together quite nicely, as we see a flashback of Charlie's mother defending her family at any cost when she shoots a man after he threatens her daughter and attempts to steal their food supply. Maybe that's why she's still alive and Charlie's dad, who couldn't bring himself to shoot the thief, isn't. I'm sure that's an oversimplified analysis of a very complex and emotional saga, but thus is blog life.
I'm very curious about Sabastian Monroe's rise to power—why him and not Miles? What does he possess that makes him so powerful besides a well-chiseled jaw line? And how did he get a hold of Charlie's mom?
In other news, Captain Tom Neville (Giancarlo Esposito) was terrifyingly fantastic and could be my new favorite TV villain. He sure doesn't seem to have a problem killing some folks, whether it's a super brutal beat-and-shoot kind of thing or more Dr. Kevorkian in nature. Either way, there is some serious crazy in those eyes. And I dig it.
