Wes Hohenstein
A native of the St. Louis suburb St. Charles, Mo., Wes attended college at St. Louis University, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. His first on-air position was at KLFY-TV in Lafayette, La., where he gained invaluable experience spending several years monitoring and tracking Gulf Coast weather, including hurricanes. From there Wes made his way to Salt Lake City where he was able to experience the 2002 Winter Olympics. In Utah, Wes was the morning meteorologist for KTVX-TV. He learned to love the South, the people and the food while in Louisiana and is happy to be back.Wes is a member of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association. He holds the AMS Seal of Approval, given to broadcast meteorologists who display an excellence in presenting their weather program to the viewer. He has also won an Associated Press award for his weathercasts. An 8th grade science project was Wes' first taste of what would become his life's passion. Although his first project was with markers and poster board, not Doppler 2000, he knew he liked weather and enjoyed presenting it in front of a camera. From that fateful presentation in front of his fellow classmates to his current position anchoring Local 2 Daybreak and Local2 at Noon, one thing has remained the same -- Wes' uncanny passion for all things weather-related.Many consider Wes' secret weapon to be his sly sense of humor. But knowing how to laugh at one's self can be just as important. Case in point -- Wes' ill-fated adventure with Disney On Ice. "I was doing live weather at Disney On Ice when I decided to try to impress the viewers and cast members at the arena. I'm not sure what you call what I was trying to do, but I lost my balance and took a pretty nasty fall -- on camera," he said.Luckily, he wasn't hurt, but Wes says he learned an invaluable lesson from the experience. "Always be sure to retrieve and destroy the tape when you make a fool of yourself on television and leave the complicated triple-toe loops to the Olympians!"In his spare time Wes loves to golf, bike and barbecue. A sports fanatic, Wes enjoys playing and watching, but really gets serious about Cardinals baseball and Texans football. Wes makes his home in Sugar Land.Would you like to send him an e-mail?
