HOUSTON -

The University of Houston has hired a new men's basketball coach.

Current Houston Rockets assistant coach Kelvin Sampson has been hired to coach the Cougars, Local 2 Sports Director Randy McIlvoy has learned.

Sampson has been an assistant with the Rockets since 2011, after a stop in Milwaukee. Prior to that, he coached college basketball at Indiana and Oklahoma.

He replaces James Dickey, who resigned last month.
