Tracy McGrady makes Sugar Land Skeeters opening day roster

SUGAR LAND, Texas – The Sugar Land Skeeters open their new season Thursday night and after a short camp the roster has been finalized.

As expected, former Rockets star Tracy McGrady has made the team as a pitcher and is a part of the roster, club officials confirmed with KPRC Local 2 Wednesday afternoon.

McGrady began working out back in November pursuing his dream of playing professional baseball and worked occasionally with 7-time Cy Young winner Roger Clemens.

McGrady debuted last week in a scrimmage against Alvin Community College in which he pitched one inning.

"We don't know yet how we will use Tracy but he certainly put in the work so we'll see," said Skeeters manager Gary Gaetti. "He faced some hitters the past week or so and we'll still evaluate the situation.  It's a very unique situation."

The Skeeters open the season at Constellation Field Thursday night at 7 p.m.
