It's a new week for the Texans.
A three-day mini-camp is underway and it's mandatory but not in the eyes of wide receiver Andre Johnson.
Sticking to his promise back in May, Johnson was a no-show on day one this morning and that's not expected to change this week.
"He's been in this league a long time and in different systems," said Texans head coach Bill O'Brien. "I've spoken with him and texted with him."
Perhaps in a direct message to Andre, O'Brien today named Ryan Fitzpatrick as the starting Quarterback. O'Brien says the backup slot is a battle between Case Keenum , and rookie Tom Savage.
"I thought he earned it with his preparation and his accurancy," O'Brien said on Tuesday afternoon at NRG Stadium. "I thought it was important now to tell the team and the group before we break for the summer."
But with Johnson skipping out on camp, is that affecting the timing he and Fitzpatrick need to get on the same page?
"I don't know Andre all that well," said Fitzpatrick on Tuesday afternoon. "I have gotten to know all of the other receivers and tight ends and this is going to be a fun system to play in. I think everybody has bought in."
O'Brien also tightened up the Texans' quarterback rotation. T.J. Yates was cut, according to an NFL Network report. Yates won the franchise's first playoff game against the Cincinnati Bengals
