San Antonio Spurs star Tim Duncan announces retirement

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Spurs star Tim Duncan is finally calling it a career.

Duncan has decided to retire from the NBA after an illustrious 19-year career with the San Antonio Spurs.
The news of Duncan's retirement was first tweeted out by the San Antonio Spurs.

Duncan led the Spurs to five NBA championships over the span of three decades. He was named Finals MVP for three of those championships.

Tim Duncan has decided to retire after an illustrious 19-year career with the San Antonio Spurs. The KSAT family would like to thank Tim not only for the five championships he brought to the Alamo City, but for his contributions in the community. Duncan retires as the franchise’s all-time leader in scoring, rebounds and blocks. The Spurs have made the playoffs every year Duncan has been with the team.

Duncan was drafted No. 1 overall by the Spurs in 1997 and quickly became an impact player in the NBA, teaming with David Robinson to form the Spurs "Twin Towers" in the late 90s. 

Duncan's dominance continued in the early 2000's as he won back-to-back league MVP awards in 2002-03.

He has averaged 19 points, nearly 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocks per game over his career.

Duncan leaves the game as a 15-time NBA All-Star and lock for the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame.

He was named to an All-NBA team 15 times in his career and an All-NBA Defensive team 15 times as well.
