Rockets super fan shows off 'Rocket Room'

HOUSTON – When you drive by the home of Nick Jimenez, you can tell a Rockets fan definitely lives there from the decorated mailbox and the painted curb.

It's not until you're welcomed inside, however, that you learn just how big a fan he is.

“As people came over, they called it the mini-Toyota Center and I was just -- to me it's still my Rocket Room,” said Nick.

He first became a Houston Rockets fan as a teenager when he went to his first-ever NBA game.

“That day I kept my ticket stub and from there I just kept them all,” Jimenez said.

Thus began his collection.

Years later, when he and his now-wife moved in together, “It was just in our, my bedroom and (my) wife says, 'We're not having a bunch of men around, hanging around the walls We've got to get rid of them.' (I) said, 'OK, no problem. I can get rid of them.' (I) didn't tell her what I was going to do, but tell her I was going to get rid of them and this is what happened," said Nick, of his Rocket Room. “Once she saw the red paint, she knew what it was."

That was seven years ago.

When I asked Nick to point out some of his favorite pieces, he said we could be there all day.

There's the autographed stuff.

“Olajuwon and Robinson during the playoffs,” Jimenez said.

There's his bobblehead collection.

“Once I got the first one it was, I was guaranteed I was going to get every single one ever made,” Jimenez said.
And then there's his version of the Jumbotron.

“You catch yourself when you're at the game, instead of looking at the players, you're just natural. You look up at the Jumbotron,” Jimenez said.

It's safe to say as long as the Houston Rockets exist, they'll have Jimenez as a fan.

“For life. For sure,” he said.

Believe it or not, what you see in the room is just a small portion of Jimenez's collection. He actually has plans to renovate and make the space bigger and better.

This time, though, it's all wife-approved.

Share with your friends who love the Houston Rockets. They'll appreciate this man's devotion to the team.
