Rockets continue search for experienced head coach

Reports: Messina, D'Antoni still among candidates

HOUSTON – The Rockets may be no closer to naming a head coach, but they continue to talk with coaches who have previous head coaching experience.

ESPN reported the Rockets were set to have a second meeting with former Nuggets, Suns, Knicks and Lakers head coach Mike D'Antoni.

Additionally a report from ESPN's Marc Spears indicated the Rockets had also interviewed San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Ettore Messina.

Messina coached overseas for nearly 25 seasons as head coach for a number of Euroleague teams, and is also set to serve as the Italian national team head coach in the Olympics in Rio, should the team qualify for the games.

The Rockets are still believed to have strong interest in current NBA analyst Jeff Van Gundy and recently fired Pacers head coach Frank Vogel.

Vogel has reportedly already interviewed for each of the other three current head coaching openings in Orlando, New York and Memphis.

Van Gundy is not believed to have had a formal interview with any team, including the Rockets.
