Rice baseball to visit Cuba in November

HOUSTON – Late November Rice baseball will travel to Cuba to play exhibition games against teams from the Cuban Baseball Federation. The trip will be designed for players and other Rice students to experience culture while completing a fall-semester credit-bearing class on trends in contemporary Cuba.

Owls Head Coach Wayne Graham remembers playing professional baseball in Cuba back in 1960, "It was a little uneasy. Not real uneasy, but we were aware that there's something going on here besides baseball."

Outside of culture, Graham is also excited for his players and what they will gain from playing baseball against Cuban teams and their style of play. "Theirs is more intuitive, based on the love of the game. They are out there all the time from the time they are very young, it's all about baseball."
