Simone Biles' last shot to make Team USA gymnastics squad

SAN JOSE, Cali. – America's top female gymnasts will take to the floor Sunday night for their last chance to make the U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team.

It has been a grueling weekend of competition in San Jose, California, and it all comes down to this.

Fourteen women will put it all out there in hopes of making the team.

"You literally walk into this meet and you can feel the tension. It's palpable," Houstonian and Olympic medalist Raj Bhavsar told KPRC Channel 2.

Bhavsar couldn't be happier to see Spring's own Simone Biles at the top of the leaderboard going into the final night of Olympic trials.

"(She's) just an all star athlete and really just an amazing ambassador to the sport and a good human being," he said. "We're really lucky to be alive to witness this. She's going to be an inspiration to gymnasts not just now, but for generations to come. We're going to remember her name."

Biles is a full point ahead of Lauren Hernandez, Aly Raisman, MyKayla Skinner and Ragan Smith.

Smith's coach is Houston's own Kim Zmeskal, who medaled at the '92 Barcelona Games.

"At the end of the day, I still want to always remember being a gymnast and to try to see things through that lens," Zmeskal told KPRC 2.

Her best advice: Try not to let the stress get to you.

Zmeskal added, "When you are at your best, you're in a good place and happy and looking around thinking, 'I've got this.' So that's all we're really trying to get for Ragan right now."

Those who've been in this very position say at this point, it's 95-percent mental toughness.
