Passenger describes 2 American swimmers pulled from Houston-bound flight

Swimmers pulled off plane by Brazilian authorities investigating robbery claim

HOUSTON – Brazilian police pulled two American swimmers who competed at the Rio Olympics off a flight headed back to Houston, NBC News confirmed.

A witness on the flight saw a tall man being escorted from the plane.

"He just sat there or (was) sitting next to me. They came and escorted him off the plane," Rod Rodriguez said. "I was sitting there, they came by and just said, 'Sir, you need to debark the plane.' And the security person, they took him off the plane."

Authorities are investigating the Olympians' claims that they were robbed at gunpoint. Police said the claims are "inconsistent."

Video obtained by the Daily Mail shows Ryan Lochte, Gunnar Bentz, University of Texas swimmer Jack Conger and James Feigen, of San Antonio, after they were questioned by police on the night of the reported robbery.

Today's Matt Lauer also questioned the claims.

"I pointedly said to (Lochte), 'You had said before it was placed on your forehead and cocked.' He said, 'That's not exactly what happened,' and I think he feels it was more of a traumatic mischaracterization," Lauer said.

Lochte is back in the United States, but fellow swimmers Conger and Bentz have been ordered to stay in Brazil.

Their teammate, Feigen, was supposed to be on the same flight home, but never showed up.
