EVANSTON, Ill. (NBC) -

New uniforms for Northwestern University’s football team are raising eyebrows after some say it looks like they are covered with blood splatters.

Under Armour put together the uniforms in honor of the Wounded Warrior Project.

The uniforms feature a pattern that represents a flag that has flown proudly and weathered over time.

It’s the weathering effect that has some thinking it looks like the flag is covered with blood.

Under Armour has responded to concerns saying the tattered pattern does not depict blood.

The company plans to auction off the uniforms and donate the proceeds to injured veterans after Northwestern’s game against Michigan on November 16.

Northwestern says the only change that will be made to the uniforms is the addition of Big Ten patches.
