It's official: Dwight Howard to play with Houston Rockets

HOUSTON – Dwight Howard changed his Twitter avatar to a picture of himself in a Houston Rockets jersey Friday evening, and changed his hometown to Houston.

Followed by the change of his profile picture, Howard tweeted, "I've decided to become a member of the Houston Rockets. I feel its the best place for me and I am excited about joining the Rockets and I'm looking forward to a great season. I want to thank the fans in Los Angeles and wish them the best."

Around 5:00 p.m. on Friday, USA Today confirmed Howard's decision to play for the Rockets, which caught the social media site, Twitter, on fire.

Fans and celebrities tweeted their excitement about the unofficial news in 140 characters, or less.

Hours after USA Today confirmed the decision, it was reported that Howard was en route to Los Angeles for one last meeting with the Lakers.

However, Lakers general manager, Mitch Kupchak released a statement wishing Howard the best of luck in his career, saying he's been informed of Howard's decision to not return to the Lakers.
