SOCHI, Russia -

Although everyone is still talking about the big moment at the Olympics when Meryl Davis and Charlie White won the first U.S. gold in ice dancing, a lot of Houstonians were watching another couple on the ice.

We're talking about Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje.  They're part of Team Canada, but Weaver is from the Houston area.

We've heard from so many Houstonians who found themselves cheering for Canada in ice dancing. Weaver and her partner tangoed their way to a seventh place finish.

"Honestly I feel like when the music stared the world melted away and it was just Andrew and I out there on the ice and that is the best feeling you can get," Weaver told Local 2's Rachel McNeill.

"Kaitlyn is an amazing partner for me. I wouldn't be here accomplishing the things that I have without her drive, without her passion and without our partnership," Poje said.

And Weaver had a message for all Houstonians.

"I feel like they have helped form the person I am today and I get choked up thinking about it, but thank you, thank you," she said.

Weaver left Houston to train in Canada when she was just 14. She later became a citizen but says her roots will always be home in Houston.

Another interesting note about Weaver: her hair has its own Twitter account! Someone made an account called @weaverswaves, which parodies her long blonde locks that fall almost to her waist.
