For first time, Texans won't hold training camp in Texas

HOUSTON – The Houston Texans on Thursday confirmed an earlier report that they will hold their training camp outside Texas for the first time.

Earlier this month, KPRC Channel 2’s Randy McIlvoy was told by sources that the team would hold their training camp at the The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

The team confirmed Thursday that the newly renovated resort will host the team for training camp.

“We are thrilled with the opportunity to hold training camp at the Greenbrier,” said Rick Smith, the team’s executive vice president of football operations and general manager. “It’s a wonderful place and the facilities and climate combine for an ideal environment as our team trains, bonds and prepares for the 2017 season.”

For the last 15 seasons, the team has held its training camp in the Houston Methodist Training Center, known to Houstonians as the “Texans Bubble,” located across from NRG Stadium.

Dates for this year’s training camp will be released later, team officials said.
