Evan Gattis undergoes surgery, expected to report to Spring Training on time

HOUSTON – Evan Gattis went under the knife on Tuesday to repair a core muscle injury, according to Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow.

The injury, commonly referred to as a sports hernia, has an estimated recovery timetable of four to six weeks.

Gattis will report to Spring Training on time and will rehab with the team's medical staff.

Houston's first full-squad workout will be Feb. 23.

Gattis ended his first season with the Astros (2015) by leading the team in home runs (27) and RBI (88), setting career marks in both categories as well.
