Dustin Johnson withdraws from Shell Houston Open

HOUSTON – Dustin Johnson, the world’s number one ranked golfer, withdrew Monday from the Shell Houston Open.

Events at the annual golf tournament started Monday at the Golf Club of Houston. The first round is slated for Thursday mornig. 

Johnson hinted he might skip Houston’s tournament after his win Sunday at the WCG Dell Match Play in Austin.

“I don’t know,” Johnson said when asked whether he would play Houston. “Ask me that in the morning when I wake up. But as of right now I'm playing and I'm planning on going there.”

Tournament officials confirmed Johnson's withdrawal.

Johnson finished 3rd at last year's Shell Houston Open.

The final field for the Shell Houston Open includes four of the top 10 golfers in the world, including Henrik Stenson, Jordan Spieth, Adam Scott and Rickie Fowler.
