HOUSTON -

The Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston will return next year. 

Organizers announced the 2014 Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston has been scheduled for June 27-29.

"We were extremely excited by the fan turnout at this year’s Grand Prix. Thousands of fans filled the grandstands and our infield each day of the event," said Chuck Kosich, general manager of the Grand Prix. "With the continued growth of INDYCAR and all of the excitement generated at this year’s Grand Prix, we are looking forward to an even bigger event as we welcome back the world’s best racecar drivers to Reliant Park for the 2014 Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston Presented by the Greater Houston Honda Dealers."

The 2014 Grand Prix of Houston will feature a "doubleheader" with two IndyCar Series races.

Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti fractured his spine and broke his right ankle in an IndyCar Series crash at the 2013 Grand Prix of Houston.  He left a Houston hospital to head to Indianapolis for further evaluation.
