HOUSTON – The glitz is off the UH football team and maybe the coach will stay put. The Texans will try to do the impossible. The team will attempt to look decent on National TV.

The World Series starts tomorrow night in Cleveland due to the AL winning the All star game. The Cubs had the best record but still will get 3 at home instead of 4 if the series goes seven. I thought I would play history teacher today so let's recall those thrilling days of yester year.

The Cubs last got in this in 1945. WWII was over but the Tigers and Cubs were still playing with guys who weren't in the military and the skill level was questionable. Writer Frank Graham said it was "the fat guys against the tall guys in the office picnic game".  Warren Brown called it the "World's Worst Series". The Cubs lost 3 of 4 at Wrigley and the Tigers won just once at their place but took the series 4 games to 3.

The Indians last were in the big series in 1948. They had beaten the Red Sox in a one game playoff to meet the Boston Braves. It did spare the country an ALL BOSTON SERIES. Bob Feller pitched 2 games for the tribe and didn't win either of them. However, Cleveland won it 4 games to two. It was the first WORLD SERIES TO BE TELEVISED. That dangerous trend continues.
