Daily Craig: Let's not repeat history

HOUSTON – THE COOGS are no. 6.  I am referring to the AP Poll and not other polls which spring up on various web sites. It's been a long time since the UH footballers have been ranked in the top 10. IT WAS 1990.  It was John Jenkins first year as the man in charge of the run'n shoot. One year after ANDRE won the Heisman, David Klingler threw 54 touchdowns on the way to winning the SAMMY BAUGH AWARD. The Cougars finished the season NUMBER 10.  They had an 8 game win streak to start the season and were upset by TEXAS in the Dome to ruin the perfect run. We know that won't repeat as Texas stopped playing Houston years ago.

To those who wonder how the Coogs did in a BOWL GAME THAT SEASON.  They didn't as they were in year 2 of a probation which kept the SWC guys off the bowl schedule. We know that won't happen again. Now, WHAT ABOUT THIS TIME AROUND?  The team , after just one win,  had it's odds of winning the NATIONAL TITLE GO FROM 80-1 TO 20-1.  Let's say the boys are 8-0 as they were 36 seasons ago

Game 9 is against Central Florida. Those guys are not the 1990 TEXAS LONGHORNS. I know what you are thinking. Of course they aren't They are much younger. A NATIONAL TITLE has never been won after one week unless you count Alabama. There is a given however. Houston is much better this week than many experts thought they would be.
