Daily Craig: Cubs up

HOUSTON – I was asked by my son if I was ready to be a Cubs fan again. I told him sure. His grandma has been a Cubs fan for nearly 200 years.

I hope they win it for her and the millions of CUBS FANS who weren't born when they were in that series against the Tigers in 1945.  My son's grandma was too worried about winning against the Japanese that summer. Her husband to be was in New Guinea and I am sure Joe wasn't tinkering with the Cubs BATTING ORDER. It just so happens he was from the same town as the current CUBS IDOL (and former Astros minor leaguer) Ben Zobrist. Older Cubbies fans are slightly giddy but then they have been down the ivy wall road before. Not many times, mind you, but the CUBS have made the playoffs since TV WENT TO COLOR.

I REMEMBER the complete collapse of 1969. The entire city blamed outfielder Don Young for dropping a fly ball in a key situation. Ron Santo could only homer when the Cubs were up 10 or down 10. Of course MOST REMEMBER Steve Bartman. His natural reaction to a foul ball  led  him to be the FAN WHO KILLED CHICAGO. If only the Cubs could defy all and win the damned thing. The BILLY GOAT could be put out to pasture and the BASEBALL HOF would be the CUBBIE BEAR LOUNGE.

I am A CUBS FAN AGAIN. I just wish they had JOSE ALTUVE.
