Daily Craig: T-shirts teed up

HOUSTON – While on our mini-vacation to the beach I could only do what I usually do. I check out the various t-shirts worn by those staring into the Gulf or yelling, "Hey, put on some sunscreen."

In the area where we are I have seen many University of Kentucky shirts. As you might imagine they are all basketball tees. There are quite a few boys here as the area is home to various baseball tournaments. One group's tees read,  "We are Beasts." Of course they are. As beastly as one can be at age 11. "Fear no other team" was on a glow in the dark orange t-shirt. The kid was in diapers. His sister was wearing a Tennessee Titans shirt. I would have told her to get another shirt but she was about 8 years old and her daddy was pretty big.

I counted 16 various University of Alabama shirts, caps, visors. I couldn't argue with that choice unless they were basketball tees. They weren't. I saw a man pulling a portable cooler filled with about 4 cases of beer. I figured he was a Texan but went he got closer he was wearing a Hoosiers golf cap.  I saw one fellow sleeping with a UT cap over his eyes. That was clearly a Texas football fan. He hopes to be wide awake come September. I have yet to see any Aggies gear. That is surprising as one time while riding the subway in Tokyo I saw three Aggie sweatshirts among the riders.

As for me and the wife?  She was the only one at the beach wearing UH shorts and a Correa t-shirt. I was sporting my khaki Astros cap but tomorrow will dazzle those under the umbrellas with my prized Southern Illinois cap. I might look for an soccer t-shirt with Iceland on it.
