J.J. Watt named AFC player of the month

HOUSTON – The American Football Conference has named defensive end J.J. Watt of the Houston Texans as one the players of the month for December.

The NFL made the announcement Wednesday.

Watt was named as the AFC defensive player of the month.  

Wide receiver Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers was named as the AFC offense player of the month and kicker Connor Barth of the Denver Broncos was named as the AFC special teams player of the month.

Watt led the NFL with nine sacks this month while posting 24 tackles.  He is the first player in NFL history with at least three offensive touchdowns, two touchdowns and takeaways and a safety in the same season.
