Daily Craig: Casual Friday coaches

HOUSTON – Here we go again. The Rockets are playing hokey-pokey with possible coaches. Mike D'Antoni is the latest suspect. He holds both American and Italian passports. I am surprised he is considered the top pick.

If you consider his background he had one fabulous year with the Suns, resigned as coach of the Knicks, had a few seasons with the Lakers and has been an assistant coach with the worst team in America, and Italy, in the Sixers.
What was his interview like?  He must have said he could speed things up. That is his thing.

The Rockets better get him some more players or he will just speed up the losses. Coaching jobs in the NBA are usually plentiful and this has been a banner year for job changers. Mike played 17 years in NBA, ABA, and Italy. Two of his four teams don't exist anymore. You know he was a bench guy because he wore four different numbers. He has a mustache so that is a plus. He, like Jerry West, is from West Virginia. The comparison stops there.

I would have liked Jeff Van Gundy to come back. At least he has Texas license plates. Rick Adelman was here for four years and still sported Oregon plates. I wonder if D'Antoni has Italian tags?
