“Oh yeah, I feel great. After two seasons I think I just got healthy enough to be where I need to be,” said Clowney at the NRG Podium.

Monday after the Texans first practice Clowney was asked what he needs to do to come back and dominate.

“Just come back and work hard, just learn the playbook and keep on going,” said Clowney.   “Just  keep working hard and show the guys I’m ready to go.”

Clowney, who is entering his third season with the Texans has been hampered by injuries since his arrival.  Last year he suffered a Lisfranc injury which involved a sprain his foot.  The setback kept Clowney out of the mix at the end of the year and their playoff game against the Chiefs when the Texans were blown out at NRG Stadium.

Clowney admitted Monday it was frustrating not staying on the field for an entire season.

“Of course it’s frustrating. It feels like you’re letting the team down when you’re not out there. Injuries happen, you’ve just got to be mentally tough to come back and show the guys you are ready to play,” Clowney told reporters.

Clowney was the Texans number one pick in 2014 and has failed to take part in a full NFL season since he joined the organization.  That makes 2016 a critical season early in his NFL career.  He believe he is more comfortable mentally entering this new season.

“I’m very comfortable this year. I think I got the defense down and now I’m just figuring out what everybody else does around me so I can know the weaknesses of our defense and where to help at,” said Clowney.

As for the Texans pass rush  Clowney says he is ready to be in the mix every week.

“I think it’d be great. We work on this every day at practice and we know what we’ve got up front, we just have to get after it, after the team and rush the passer.”
