Friday morning you could feel the buzz that things are about to ramp up even more. First baseman Jon Singleton arrived at camp, checked in late Thursday afternoon and was in the clubhouse Friday morning making the rounds, shaking hands and catching up with his teammates.

For Singleton, this spring training is a big one because he is not on the Astros 40 man roster, which means he really has to impress to have any shot at making the team. Singleton's been up and down over the past few years and has yet to show that he can be an impact player in the big leagues.

"My third year here now. I'm not saying it's not a big deal, but every day I want to make progress," he said.

Also in the clubhouse Friday morning was Dallas Keuchel. He was back after missing Thursday due to the flu.

We also saw Carlos Beltran for the first time. He checked in and worked out on the back field with other position players that have arrived in advance of Saturday's first full-squad workout.

Pitcher Joe Musgrove is off to a good, healthy start to camp. He's battling for the fifth slot in the starting rotation. Musgrove was 4-4 in 10 starts last season during his time up with the Astros. He'll throw his second bullpen session Friday morning.

Randy McIlvoy will be live from spring training at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. Friday on KPRC 2 News.
