SUGAR LAND, Texas - The brand new minor league baseball team, the Sugar Land Skeeters, kicked off its inaugural season in their brand new Constellation Field Thursday.
Crews put in long days to get the last-minute touches finished on the new stadium on Highway 90 at Highway 6.
Fan Sandy Jones said her family is excited to have a baseball team so close to home.
"This is like our hometown team, something we can root for here in our area of town and not have to go downtown all the time," Jones said.
"Forever we have Astros season tickets, too, but we were really looking forward to having someplace close where we can let the kids come by themselves and live the dream," said fan Debbie Page.
The game was sold out. However, in the end, the new hometown team did not get a win. The York Revolution took the victory 3-2.
The Skeeters take on the Revolution again Friday at 7:05 p.m.
Houston's own Yolanda Adams performed the first national anthem in the stadium.
