Astros Stassi has wrist surgery, out six weeks

HOUSTON – Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow announced Tuesday that Astros catcher Max Stassi underwent surgery Monday to repair a hook of the hamate fracture of his left wrist.

He is expected to miss approximately six weeks. The Astros open the regular season on April 4 in New York when they face the Yankees.

 

The surgery was performed by Dr. Thomas Mehlhoff in Houston, Texas.

 

Stassi, 25, is entering his fourth season with the Astros. He appeared in six games this Spring Training and owns a career .357 (15x42) batting average in 21 games in the Major Leagues with the Astros over the last three years.

 

He was expected to compete for the backup catching position behind Jason Castro.
