Astrodome Deadline Set

Deadline Set For Astrodome Proposals

HOUSTON – Now sitting in the shadows of Reliant Stadium, the Astrodome regained a share of the spotlight Wednesday when the Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation's Board of Directors met to revisit the "Eighth Wonder of the World".

"One of the things we want to do is put ourselves on a schedule," said Board Chairman Edgar Colon.

Deemed a facility unfit for occupancy since 2009, the board set a deadline of June 10th for private groups to submit completed proposals of what to do with the dome.

"What is your idea? What's the feasibility?" said Colon. "But also, what are the funding mechanisms?"

Based on the private proposals received, as well as the board's own findings, the HCSCC then plans to make a recommendation to the Harris County Commissioners Court June 25th.

"You get as many ideas as there are people in the room," said Harris County Judge Ed Emmett. "We need to narrow that so the public knows where we're going."
