HOUSTON -

The Houston Texans have extended the contracts of QB Matt Schaub and DE Tim Jamison, the team announced today. Terms of the contract extensions were not disclosed.

Schaub, acquired via trade from the Atlanta Falcons on March 22, 2007, has started 64 games as the Texans signal caller since arriving in Houston.  He has thrown for 16,903 yards and 92 touchdowns since 2007.  He owns the franchise record for most 300-yard games (23), career passer rating (94.0), passing yards, passing touchdowns, completions (1,382) and wins (32).  He was recently voted as an offensive captain for the third consecutive season.

"I want to thank the Texans and Mr. McNair and Rick Smith  for making this happen. My wife and I want to raise our kids here and continue to make chartiable contributions to this area. We couldn't be more happy."

Drafted by Atlanta in 2004 in the third round from the University of Virginia, Schaub is only one of 12 quarterbacks in NFL history to pass for 4,000-yards in back-to-back seasons and one of eight to throw for 9,000 combined yards in consecutive seasons.  He enters 2012 following his best winning percentage as a starter at 70 percent last season.  His 2011 season was cut short following a Lisfranc injury in Week 10 at Tampa Bay.  He finished the year with 2,479 yards, 15 touchdowns and only six interceptions.  While at the helm, the Texans offense ranked seventh in the NFL gaining 396.2 yards per game.

Schaub’s best year as a pro came in 2009 when he was named to his first Pro Bowl following an NFL–best 4,770 passing yards.  He had 10 games were he finished with an 90-plus passer rating and nine games he threw for 300-plus yards which is tied for second most in NFL history. He finished the year with career-highs by completing a 67.9 percent of his passes, throwing for 29 touchdowns and posting a 98.6 passer rating.  He was named Pro Bowl MVP following his 13-of-17 for 189 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Schaub has made accuracy a staple in his arsenal.  He ranks seventh in NFL history in completion percentage at 64.3 for quarterbacks that have attempted more than 1,500 passes.  He has posted a 20-11 record as a starter at home, throwing for 254.1 yards per game which ranks sixth among starters since 2007.  Since taking over as the Texans starter, the Pennsylvania native ranks in the top 10 in the NFL in passer rating, passing yards, completion percentage, completions and passes of 25-plus yards.

Jamison, signed as an undrafted free agent from Michigan in 2009, has appeared in 32 career games.  He set career highs in 2011 playing in all 16 games and recording a pair of sacks in Baltimore (10/16), a forced fumble, fumble recovery, 19 tackles and two passes defensed..
