Miami Marlins right-hander Anibal Sanchez became the first player to win in salary arbitration this year when he was awarded $8 million on Monday.

During Friday's hearing, Sanchez's representatives asked a panel of three arbitrators for a raise from $3.7 million to $8 million. The Marlins argued he should be paid $6.9 million.

Sanchez has posted an 8-9 mark with a 3.67 ERA in 32 starts last year for the Marlins. He is eligible for free agency after this season.
