The Colorado Rockies acquired righthander Jeremy Guthrie from the Baltimore Orioles for pitchers Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom, multiple news outlets reported on Monday.
Guthrie was likely headed for arbitration with the Orioles before the deal was done, agent Brodie Van Wagenen told the Baltimore Sun.
"Negotiations with the Orioles were steady yet slow, and an arbitration hearing seemed possible and even likely," Van Wagenen told the newspaper. "Once informed of the trade, Jeremy decided to make a showing of good faith and agreed to a deal within the Rockies' payroll structure, since he felt it important that his relationship with his new team get off on the right foot.
"Jeremy is excited about a fresh start with a new organization and a contending team close to home."
Guthrie posted a 47-65 mark with a 4.19 ERA in his last five seasons with the Orioles. He was 9-17 with a 4.33 ERA in 2011.
Hammel went 7-13 with a 4.76 ERA last season.
Lindstrom, who is a reliever, had two saves and 15 holds in 2011.
