Terrell Owens avoided possible arrest and jail time on Thursday by paying $20,000 in back child support to the mother of his 7-year-old daughter, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Owens, who last played in the NFL in 2010, is supposed to pay Melanie Smith $5,000 a month for his daughter. He has had trouble staying up to date on his child support payments, which total $44,600 a month to the mothers of his four children, ages 5 to 12.
Owens appeared in Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta on Thursday, but did not comment.
Smith told the Journal-Constitution that Owens, 38, rarely visits his daughter. "Maybe eight, 10 times in her life," she said.
He last saw the girl in March backstage at a taping of the Dr. Phil show. On that program he was confronted by three of the women with whom he has fathered a child.
