Boston Red Sox righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka remains on track to return around midseason after reporting no setbacks in his recovery from Tommy John surgery.

Matsuzaka, who is entering the final year of his contract with Boston, underwent season-ending elbow surgery last June.

The 31-year-old Matsuzaka finished 3-3 with a 5.30 ERA in eight games - seven starts - last season.

He won 33 games in his first two seasons with the Red Sox, including an 18-3 record in 2008, but is only 16-15 in the last three seasons.
